Among those founded by St. Francis' word
a Movement exists in the Order Third,
like a lone wave on a restless sea,
flowing gently and moving almost silently.
Towards shores distant on a way unknown,
moved by the Holy Spirit nearly alone,
in seculars who long to be free
of the world, and what it says they should be.
Founded on the vision St. Francis himself gave
in the 13th century to seculars that were brave,
and willing, to live in a penitent's way,
the Movement is named Stella Matutina for our day.
When our Queen Mother has come as if again born,
amidst weeping, and pleadings, and forlorn,
over the state of the race Her Son called His own,
by living and dying His Way to us shown.
Twelve seculars in a Region named for the Queen,
said "Yes" to the way before it could be seen,
hopeful they could return to what was in 1221,
true Friars of St. Francis guided their run.
For, it is true, that union must always be there,
of cleric and secular, so that all may dare
to reach out to others like that wave on the sea,
has interminable motion to those who want it to be.
By invitation only are new members to be called,
finding resonance in Franciscan hearts now stalled,
from being what they want to be in life,
so don't see this Movement as a distant strife.
Start in yourself, do what he, Francis, said,
stay in your fraternity, live what you have read
St. Francis told his own, secular, living at home,
do live the gospel life, and stay close to Rome.
Simplicity and discipline, that was Francis' call,
our suggested lifestyle, but perhaps not for all.
Stella Matutina is a true Movement of the heart,
'til now we have done nothing, it is time to start.
